How to become a Board member

The MAEF Board of Directors meets quarterly. Its committees meet quarterly in the other months. Meetings are generally 2-3 hours long and are usually held in the St. Paul area, although the meeting place may vary at times. Below is a description of the composition of the MAEF Board as delineated in Minnesota Statute.

Excerpted from Minnesota Statute 124D.94, subd. 3.

Board of directors. The board of directors of the foundation shall consist of the commissioner of children, families, and learning and 20 members to be appointed by the governor. Of the 20 members appointed by the governor, eight shall represent a variety of education groups and 12 shall represent a variety of business groups.

Individuals interested in serving on the MAEF Board of Directors should contact us or the Office of the Governor (651-296-391 or 800-657-3717) to submit their names. Candidates will be asked to complete an Open Appointments Application, a Supplemental Questionnaire or resume, and the names of two persons willing to serve as references or completed letters of recommendation, especially from the group(s) the candidate represents.

The open MAEF Board positions are submitted to the Office of the Governor along with a slate of possible candidates drawn up by the Governor’s staff and the Nominating Committee of the MAEF Board. The Governor then makes the appointments to the MAEF Board.
